In the weeks leading to Valentine’s Day the red displays in the shops are hard to avoid. Red flowers, cards, chocolate and sweet wrappings along with the usual underwear and an increasing number of other items that brands see the opportunity to market. Red has long been associated with love and passion but there are plenty of other benefits to adding a pop of red to your wardrobe.
There have been very few bright days in January and this first week of February and if you’re anything like me, the dreary weather can feel quite draining. This is where adding some red into your outfit can help. On the days when I have needed an energy boost I have reached for my red jumper or jacket.
Red has been found to have a physical effect of increasing the heart rate and speeding up the pulse rate. It is known for increasing warmth, energy and excitement also giving stamina and strength. Think of the brands that use red in their logos to convey these qualities.
Which Red?
Different reds work best for different skin tones. There are lots of shades to choose from so there really is something for everyone.
If you have a warm skin tone then stick to reds that have a yellow base to them, clear bright red, strawberry, tomato, brick red and coral are examples.
For those with a cool skin tone then reds with a blue base are the ones to go for like raspberry, plum and the deeper intense wine and burgundy.
Some ways to add red to your look……
It doesn’t have to be clothes to add a pop of red. Wearing a red lipstick can have a big impact too. Wearing the right shade for your skin tone can make a big difference so it is important to make sure you find a shade that either has a blue or yellow base depending on whether you have a warm or cool skin.
The same goes for nail colour too.
