If you haven't got a wardrobe full of clothes that you love, it might be time to change your shopping mindset.
I saw a post on Fashion For Good’s Instagram this week and it really resonated with the skills that I hope to develop in my clients. Being a Personal Stylist isn’t just about shopping trips and telling people what to wear. I want to educate my clients to make better choices that will impact their confidence and relationship with clothes when I’m not there to guide them.
The way that we shop has changed so dramatically over the last 20 years that it is much harder to stay focused on shopping with purpose and making well thought out choices. It is simply too easy now with easy online browsing and next day delivery. In my experience, unless someone is using the services of a Personal Stylist, gone are the days for most people of twice yearly visits to the shops in person to buy Winter and Summer pieces.
With the ease and access to so much choice, it’s no wonder that so many people make those panic or impulse buys that so often lead to wardrobe brimming with clothes but a feeling of nothing to wear.
Here are some things to think about before you hit that add to basket button.…
Make sure you know what you already have so that you know what you need. (A Wardrobe Edit is great for this).
Do you know the brand you are buying? Is it good quality? Do the brand’s ethics match yours?
Why are you buying? Because you need it or love it or because you are being influenced by advertising?
If you are buying for an event or occasion make sure you love this item as much as something that you already own and could wear again.
If you do add items to your basket leave them there for at least 24 hours and see if you still need and want them.
